Reasons Why Some Believe That Search Engine Optimization, a.k.a. SEO Is A Scam

SEO or search engine optimization is, essentially, about making a company's website visible and searchable in the rather crowded world of the Internet. Marketing in the Internet domain is marked by complexity for the simple reason that there is a lot by way of competition out there. Search engines, like Google, are used very often by people to search for product, services or other information on the Internet. So how do you make sure that your website gets the attention it deserves? By using search engine optimization, of course.

Unfortunately, a lot of people believe that SEO is a scam. The truth lies, as always, in the facts related to search engine optimization.

Effective SEO:
Good SEO makes very small, but very important changes to a website. These changes make the difference between an invisible website and one that will show up in search results. The key is in using these small changes in tandem with search optimization methods. Quality, as in all spheres, is important in SEO also. The repeated debates on whether SEO is a scam is arising due to the practice known as black hat SEO. This term refers broadly to all the practices that unscrupulous companies use in bombarding websites with links and badly written content simply to get them highly ranked in search results.

Fallout of black hat SEO:
Most search engines have their own algorithms that weed out badly written or managed websites and drop them from the search results. This leads to the perception that it is all the fault of SEO! The rider here is being dropped from search results is the fault of bad SEO.

It is also true that because of such practices, most SEO companies get a bad rap. It is good to choose an accredited, long-standing SEO company with a proven track record. While interacting with such an SEO company, you could check out aspects, like their communications process, their knowledge of and handling of the intricacies of search engine optimization, like Google Panda or Google Dance to name a few.

Some SEO scams:
A lot of SEO companies make tall claims, like being able to submit the website to several thousand search engines. Some even promise link building in huge numbers for a low fee. Yet others may claim or promise that they can get a listing in the first page of search engines, like Google and Bing, in 3 days or less. It is good to know that these are potentially damaging SEO activities. So it is best to stay away from an SEO company that promises these results.

So then is SEO worth it?
In a simple answer, 'yes'! It is good to focus on SEO activities with a sense of quality in mind. Try and refrain from doing things, like cramming keywords into an article just to make up numbers. There is no point in including grammatically incorrect keywords just to make up the search results rankings. Your website will suffer either when the viewer lands on it and discovers the poor content or when the software-based algorithms of different search engines downgrade or even blacklist your website.

A well-constructed website can be served even better with good SEO. So your style of website and the content presented in it must be of top class. This will go a long way in nurturing good SEO activities.
